Ours ("we", "our", or "us") is a couples app designed to help partners stay connected across distance. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights under applicable law — including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

By using the Ours app, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Who We Are

Ours is operated as a sole trader / small business registered in the Netherlands. For any privacy-related questions, you can contact us at privacy@getours.site.

What Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data when you use Ours:

• Account data: Email address, password (stored securely via Supabase Auth)
• Profile data: Your name, your partner's name, your city, your partner's city, your relationship start date, next visit date
• Location data: GPS coordinates, collected only while the app is open (foreground only) to calculate the distance between you and your partner
• App content: Calendar events, time capsule messages, date night plans, question answers you save within the app
• Couple linking data: Invite codes used to link two accounts together
• Device data: Push notification tokens (when you enable notifications)

How We Use Your Data

We use your data solely to provide and improve the Ours app. Specifically:

• To create and manage your account
• To link you with your partner and share relevant content between you
• To calculate and display the distance between you and your partner
• To store your in-app content (events, messages, answers) so it persists across sessions
• To send push notifications you have opted into
• To enforce free and Pro subscription limits

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the app.

Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

Under GDPR, we process your data on the following legal bases:

• Contract: Processing necessary to provide the service you signed up for
• Legitimate interests: Improving the app and preventing abuse
• Consent: Location access and push notifications, which you can withdraw at any time via your device settings

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We share data only with:

• Supabase: Our database and authentication provider, hosted in the EU. They act as a data processor under a Data Processing Agreement.
• Your partner: Certain data (your display name, city, GPS distance, calendar events, reactions) is shared with the person you are linked to in the app. This is the core function of the service.
• Apple / Google: Standard app store infrastructure for app delivery and in-app purchases. Subject to their own privacy policies.

Location Data

GPS location is only accessed while the app is open (foreground use). We do not track your location in the background. Your coordinates are stored in our database and used only to calculate the distance shown to you and your partner. We do not share your exact coordinates with any third party.

Age Requirements

Ours is rated 18+ on the App Store. You must be at least 18 years old to use this app. The Spicy question category additionally asks users to confirm their date of birth within the app. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us at privacy@getours.site and we will delete the account.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it.

Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the EU or EEA, you have the following rights:

• Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you
• Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate data
• Deletion: Request that we delete your account and all associated data
• Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format
• Objection: Object to processing based on legitimate interests
• Withdraw consent: Withdraw consent for location or notifications at any time via device settings

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@getours.site. We will respond within 30 days.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch data protection authority: Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), secure authentication via Supabase Auth, and EU-based data storage. No system is perfectly secure — if you have concerns, contact us immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. If we make significant changes, we will notify you via the app or email. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
